Delaware families looking for a fun, screen‑free spring break activity are in luck. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is bringing back its popular Take A Kid Fishing! program with three special events scheduled for April 7–9. Timed to coincide with spring break and Earth Month, these free outings give kids ages 6–15 a chance to learn the basics of fishing while enjoying some of the state’s most scenic parks.
Each event includes hands‑on instruction from DNREC staff and volunteers, covering everything from casting techniques to fish identification. All equipment is provided, making it an easy, low‑pressure way for families to try fishing together. While the program is free, pre‑registration is required, and adults who plan to fish alongside their kids must have a Delaware fishing license and FIN number.
The spring break schedule features one event in each county:
- April 7 – Bellevue State Park (New Castle County)
- April 8 – Silver Lake Park, Dover (Kent County)
- April 9 – Trap Pond State Park (Sussex County)
Whether you’re introducing a child to fishing for the first time or simply looking for a memorable outdoor activity, these events offer a perfect way to celebrate the season and connect with nature.
